Okay, I am having a HUGE problem with housing and maintenance on our Post. My husband is in Iraq, I am taking care of a toddler and a newborn with colic on my own, on top of every day things. My toddler is allergic to ants and has to have an injection if he's bitten. We have a major ant problem in and around our house. I called on July 2 to see if they could help and they said they'd have TERMINEX come to the house but the soonest was July 17.....that was the first thing that made me upset was having to wait, and dodge the ants in his bedroom and our bathroom and everywhere else. Then I called July 3 to see if someone could fix our bathroom cause that's where MOST of the ants were coming from and was told the soonest was the 16th. I have terminex coming on the 17th what good would that do? So the 17th has come and gone and I have YET to see a terminex truck in my driveway. So now I started making phone calls and for two days now, NOTHING. No one is returning my calls, NO one is helping me with this problem, and what's irritating is our housing/maintenance is run by civilians and no offense, but they don't know what military life is like so they don't care enough. They get paid every day to answer the phone and make a couple routine appointments so what do they care that my son could die if he's bitten in the middle of the night and I don't know about it to give him his injection? They don't. So now I've gone to the Garrison Commander which is just about as high as I can go on post here, and they aren't exactly being helpfull either. They keep giving me other numbers to call and people to reach. WHAT DO I DO NOW?
I feel horrible for you and your son. My suggestion is, call Terminex yourself and make them do it ASAP. Regardless of who pays for it, it needs to be done. I would find out what your renter's rights are with both the state and military. I'm not sure if it's the same there as it is here, but I think it's worth checking into. If a landlord here defaults on doing what he/ she is suppose to do or provide, the tenant has the right to either pay for whatever is needed that the landlord does not provide and then deduct it from the rent, or not pay rent until it's done and done right. If these are your rights as well, I would find out how many notices you need to give before taking matters into your own hands and also a time frame. In this case I don't see how time should be a factor seeing as your son's life is as stake here. I would just look at it this way... If it comes down to you having to pay for it yourself, at least your son will be safe, so either way it's worth it.
FINALLY!!!! So this guy who is a (new) manager to the GMH company who runs our housing and maintenance, finally gets ahold of me after I had called so many other people since Tuesday, someone gave him my name and number. Not only did he call but he came over my house to see the problem and discuss ALL of my issues, not just the terminex deal. And huganurse.........thank you so much for your advice, the only problem is money! LOL. Can't exactly afford to do it myself and there's a whole principle here, we pay them to live here, and we pay them to do these things and ESPECIALLY when the soldiers are deployed and a wife with a toddler who's allergic and a newborn with colic is left behind handling everything herself, it's easier said than done. But I guess that would have been my next step is to somehow find the money to do it myself and go from there. But it looks like the problem will be resolved Monday, the gentleman that came here today and spoke to me was NOT happy about everything that's gone on, and it is a lot more than what's mentioned above too, I was being breif!! LOL. Anyway, thanks again everyone who helped!
I think, the next time ANYTHING happens, we both should get a hold of the congressman and shed some light on this topic. Even if it's something little, like maintenance not picking up my patio door like they said that would... it's horrible. They've gotten away with so much stuff that the fact they didn't pick up my door IS a big deal. I hope this is resolved for you. You have the right to live better than that!
