Has anyone noticed that today is more focused on commercialized values than the value of family? What is your opinion?

It appears to be heading in that direction. Remember when we were kids and our Christmas tree garland was made of string and popcorn? Or how about pictures of our family members hanging as ornaments? I'll bet the average amount spent on Christmas trees and decorations today is at least two hundred dollars. Now it's time to spend thousands on gifts!! Christmas used to be about togetherness. Now it seems as if we can't keep up with the $$$$ expected to be spent. Has anyone ever noticed someone looking on the back of a card to see how much it was, without even thinking of how grateful they were to be thought of?

How funny you brought up this topic! My husband and I were just talking about this. My husband and I are holiday junkies. We go all out but mostly everything is imagination instead of store bought. We'll use left over wood or other materials for lawn decorations to make a fake coffin at Halloween or a Fireplace and mantle to hang stockings at Christmas time. We'll decorate our Christmas tree with snow flakes made from popsicle sticks and other goodies our friends kids have made. Our neighbors are all about the competition. They are the reason the saying "keeping up with the Joneses" was created. Target LOVES them at holiday time because their front yard looks like one of the stores displays. haha I don't think there is anything wrong with it but there is something special in creating the mood, a memory and a one of a kind. Gotta love it!!
I agree with you guys....you can't buy that emotion that the holidays bring.
